If you don't have all the information, how can you make a decision? That sounds reasonable enough, until you stop to consider the fact that nobody ever knows everything about any situation. No matter how many contingency plans you make, there will always be one base that it never occurred to you to cover. That doesn't mean that you shouldn't think as hard as you can, it just means that once you have done your best, you should not assume that you have got everything in the bag. Yet just as good plans can go awry, bad ideas can have unexpected advantages.

すべての情報を持っていないで、決定などできるわけがない。こういう考えは理にかなっていますが、どんな状況でもすべてを知っている人はいません。どんな緊急事態も、あなたが対応できることばかり起きているわけではありません。

でも、できるかぎり考えるな、とは言いません。全力をつくしても、自分の鞄の中にはなんでもあると思うな、と言いたいのです。

よい計画が頓挫することがあり得るのと同様、悪い考えも想定外の利益をもたらすことがあります。
